John William Jobson was born in Soham on 25th April 1891(Newmarket Q2-1891 3B:572), baptised in Soham on 20th May 1891, son of William and Eliza JOBSON (née SIMPKIN) of Bushel Lane, Soham.

1901 census...Aged 9, he was at Sand Street, Soham with his father William JOBSON [37], farm labourer born Soham, and his mother Eliza [41] born Wicken.

1911 census...Aged 19, labourer, he was at Sand Street, Soham with his parents.


Enlisted in Bury St Edmunds.
Dying of his wounds and no Army service record found, there is no way of telling when or where he was wounded. The battalion took over trenches between Wancourt and the Arras-Cambrai road from the 1st London Regiment on 20th May, becoming Brigade support.
